Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

HELP!   My 3 year old HP Envy laptop was working great ...running either Win 8 or Win 8.1 when I bought it.

I hated Win 8, but it the laptop ran OK.

WHen WIndows offered a free upgrade to WIN 10, I jumped at it.

Well, that was a mistake.   It made my laptop unusable.  I limped along for months and ended up not usingh the laptop at all...every time I would power it up or restart it, WIN 10 would take a half hour to an hour to do whatever..."wait..." it would say.   So I gave up.

I am finally getting around to doing a full system recovery from the factory disks I had sent to me when the machine was brand new.

It went thru the recovery/rebuild (via CD/DVD) for a couple hours...disks 1 thru 3.

Got to the end, it asked for a supplental disk, which I then inserted.  After a while longer, "recovery manager" popped up and said the recovery failed.....I saved the log it offered to my USB drive.

I am attempting a second reformat/rebuild now.

But any ideas?

Here is ONE log below:

Thanks so much CherylG!

Thats exactly what it was.

The laptop just booted up into the HP?windows setup stuff and so far so good.

That WIN 10 "free upgrade" has been nothing but trouble....it also did the same stuff on the PC I built for the son.....took forveer to boot up, shut down and pretty much was a brick....did a clean format and install,  reinstalled WIN7 and the thing runs like lightining.

I wish I could get the actual clean install for Win10 (I have WIN 10 Pro 64 on another machine and its pretty solid)......but at least now I can hopefully use this laptop again with WIN8.

Windows 10 may have made some changes in BIOS. Enter BIOS using F10 key immediately after powering on  reset to Default settings. Some models you only need to tap F5 to reset to Default settings- but your's may be in a menu.

Once reset to Default settings Save & Exit and retry Recovery.

Happy to hear it is working now. If you really want to try Windows 10 clean install use the free Download Tool at Microsoft to create a Windows 10 installer on usb flash drive. Since you have upgraded once and activated on the laptop you have free lifetime installation rights. Your laptop hardware ID is stored on MS servers and will reactivate. When installing if/when it asks for license key choose-Skip. It will activate once you connect to internet.

Well,  it looks like I spoke too soon.

The laptop was humming along , doing windows related stuff as part of the reinstall...I didnt touch it, just let it do its thing.

I wnet to bed with it doing its thing.

Woke up to another "the recovery attempt has failed".

There a score of log files and not sure which one makes sense to post.

I rue the day I trusted Microsoft's "free upgrade" .

Although honestly, why is this compete system recovery from the disks so hard?

When I click on the "details" button, there are three lines:

ChkErrBB.CMD  :  Detect some error during PININST_BBV

ChkErrBB.CMD  : check c:\system.sav\logs\burnbootwarm.log

ChkErrBB.CMD  :or, check c:\system.sav\logs\burnbootmerge.log

There IS no "burn boot  warm.log" file....

I see one failed area in the "Burnbootmerge.log" file:

The entire "Burnbootmerge" looksl ike this

I ddi a search for the error  " Intel Smart Connect Technology Driver" failed and this came up... https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c04433980

but it doesnt seem to have my model listed.

Gonna try it anyways I guess.

This stinks.

SO I went ahead and changed the BIOS date to 2013...then restarted the whole recovery process.

The recovery was a success.

Then, I decided to try the whole win 10 thing again based on your answer above and someone else's in anoither thread.

So far so good! Running W10 Home. Time will tell how well it works.

Do have to admit though, the process was easy this time....and much faster than the HP recovery disks!

Sorry, Davezav, but I didn't understand what you did.
I tried the solution to turn to default settings and it didn't work, as well as yours.
So, how can I change to 2013 settings?
Thank you.

You have to go into the bios BIOS and change the system date to a 2013 date.
