Hi @Samii01
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You can try our HP recovery tool.If the recovery DVDs are not working and you no longer have your original Windows 8.1 installation, you can still reinstall Windows using a bootable USB drive.
What You Need:
- A USB flash drive (at least 8 GB).
- A working computer with internet access.
Steps to Create a Bootable Windows USB:
Download the Windows 8.1 Installation Tool:
- Go to the Microsoft Windows 8.1 download page and click Download Tool Now.
Create the Installation Media:
- Insert the USB flash drive into the working computer.
- Run the Windows 8.1 installation tool and select Create installation media for another PC.
- Choose USB flash drive and select your USB drive.
- The tool will download Windows 8.1 and create a bootable USB drive.
Boot from USB:
- Once the USB drive is ready, insert it into your HP Notebook.
- Restart your laptop and press ESC or F9 (depending on the model) to open the boot menu.
- Select USB Drive as the boot device.
Reinstall Windows 8.1:
- The system will boot into the Windows 8.1 installation environment.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows. You’ll need to select the partition to install Windows on (usually Drive 0 or the primary partition).
Important: Make sure you have your Windows 8.1 product key (if needed) before reinstalling. If your laptop had Windows 8.1 pre-installed, it should automatically activate once Windows is installed.
Step 5: Check for HP System Recovery Partition (if applicable)
Some HP laptops have a system recovery partition on the hard drive that might allow you to recover Windows without using DVDs or a USB drive.
- Turn off your laptop.
- Turn it on and immediately press F11 repeatedly until you see the HP Recovery Manager screen.
- If it works, follow the instructions to restore your laptop to factory settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
