I have an HP Omen 30L from 2022. My PC was running on Windows 10. I started to have a number of errors where my computer would blue screen randomly about 2-3 months ago. It was horrible. So, I recently upgraded to Windows 11 last week via the cloud download option. The problems persisted. So, last night I reset my PC completely and reinstalled Windows 11 via the cloud download option. Now, I cannot login to my account, since as soon as I enter my pin, I get "The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded".

Things I have tried:

- Booting in safe mode and running `net user`, which returns: "The command completed with one or more errors.".

- `chkdsk c: f/`

- `sfc /scannow`

- Running DISM repair tools via:

1. `DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth`

2. `DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth`

3. `DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth`

Things I am considering:

1. Reinstalling windows 11 from local this time instead of from cloud

2. Giving up entirely and moving somewhere remote in the faraway mountains where I do not need to see or deal with a computer ever again

Other side effects:

- I have two installs of Windows 11. Everytime I load my computer I'm asked to choose a drive, both of which are on Volume 4

Does anyone have any advice on how to approach the issue? Thank you

Hi @liszxc

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a pretty frustrating issue with your HP Omen 30L, and I understand that it's overwhelming to have persistent problems, especially after a fresh installation of Windows 11. Let's break this down and see what can be done to resolve the issue.

Steps to Fix "User Profile Service service failed the sign-in" Error:

1. Use System Restore or Recovery to Roll Back

Since you've already reinstalled Windows 11 and are encountering problems, you might want to try rolling back to a previous point where the system worked.

  • Boot to Recovery Mode:
    • Restart your computer and press F11 (or use the appropriate key for your model to enter recovery mode).
    • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
    • Choose a restore point before the issue started happening. If you had a backup created prior to your Windows 11 upgrade, this should help revert to a working state.

If a restore point is not available or the issue persists, you can move forward with the next steps.

2. Fix User Profile Service Issue

The error you're receiving usually indicates a corrupt user profile, but there are a few ways to potentially fix this.

Option A: Boot into Safe Mode with Networking

  • Restart your computer and press Shift + F8 during boot (or use Advanced Startup options) to get into the Recovery Environment.
  • From there, navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings, and then click Restart.
  • Once the system reboots, choose Enable Safe Mode with Networking.

In Safe Mode, try creating a new user profile:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type:net user /add [new username] [password]Now, restart the system and sign in with the new profile. If successful, back up your important files and transfer them to the new user profile.

Option B: Create New User Profile from Command Prompt in Recovery Mode

  1. Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (this can be done by interrupting the boot process 3 times, or using F11/F12 or Shift+Restart).
  2. Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
  3. Once you're in Command Prompt, you can create a new user and give it admin rights:net user [new username] /add
net localgroup administrators [new username] /add

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

System restore is not possible for me as I have no backups. Booting into safe mode does nothing as I still cannot sign in to my user profile. Lastly, although I'm able to execute the net user commands as instructed in the recovery environment, this makes no change.

I don't think I can use command-line tools in the recovery environment to manipulate the accounts on the HDD installation of Windows. All I'm doing is messing with the recovery environment's own accounts, which only exist on the RAM disk, so any changes disappear the moment you reboot.

Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you

Hi @liszxc

Thanks for troubleshooting I appreciate all your efforts.

In this case, we have to reload Windows from scratch.

First, we need to download the Windows image onto a 32GB or 64GB USB flash drive (Flash drive only; memory cards and USB hard drives are not supported; It has to be 32GB or 64B only)

You can download the Windows image through the 'HP Cloud Recovery App', which can be downloaded from the Windows Store.

Refer to Step 2 on the link below:

And follow Step 4 to reload Windows from the newly created USB recovery media.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
