Hi:
What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?
If you don't know, see the info at the link below to find out.

What operating system are you running on it? W8/ W8.1/W10?
Did you run the hard drive diagnostics test (F2 key)?

If the hard drive passes the diagnostics test, you can reinstall W10 for free as follows...
Use the media creation tool to create a W10 USB installation flash drive. You will need an 8 GB flash drive for this.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Boot from the installation media by having the flash drive in a USB port, turn on or restart the PC, tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu and from that select the USB flash drive and press the Enter key.
The PC should then boot from the flash drive.
If you need to recover any files off the PC, let the new windows installation install over the current one, and it will create a windows.old folder.
After windows installs, you can explore the windows.old folder, and copy and paste any files you want to save to your new user profile.
Then you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Unfortunately, you will have to replace the hard drive, before you can reinstall W10.
Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the HDD R & R procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the mechanical hard drive with a better performing, normally more reliable 2.5" solid state drive. They are pretty reasonable if you can live with 500 or less GB of space.
