Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My sound system glitched out. It was like recording inside a tin can. Here are the steps I took:

  • Tried system restore back to a time when sound was okay - no help
  • Tried to reinstall Windows - would run for awhile and stall
  • Tried a clean install - would run awhile and stall
  • Tried my recovery thumbdrive (created by the computer) - would run awhile and stall
  • Tried again and again ... finally windows stopped working altogether
  • Kept trying, finally got a system reboot from the thumbdrive
  • Now, the recovery partition is gone and pages look whitewashed ... sound is back, though 🙂
  • Tried downloading graphic drivers ... no help

How do I get the recovery partition back and install a complete version of Windows (with all drivers)?

There is no easy way to get the recovery partition back.  You CAN do this, but you have to use external media to do a full factory reset -- as that reformats the entire disk, recreates all the partitions (including the recovery partition) and reinstalls the OS, the drivers, and the HP utilities.

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities.

In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.

You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update".

If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Support.

Thank you. I've been looking for an online way to solve the issue, but two days later .... I'm ready to give it up.
