Hi @MarcusSlime414,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is to be locked out of your HP computer and see the message that it cannot enter recovery mode. This usually means the recovery partition or boot files are damaged, but there are ways to fix it.

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the computer completely.
  2. Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  3. Hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  4. Plug the power adapter back in and try turning it on.

Step 2: Access HP Recovery Environment

If Windows recovery fails, try HP’s built-in recovery:

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly while turning it on.
  3. From the Startup Menu, press F11 for System Recovery
    • If F11 doesn’t work, the recovery partition may be missing.

Step 3: Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool

If the recovery partition is corrupted:

Step 4: If Nothing Works

  • You’ll need a Windows installation 32 gb USB
    • Download from Microsoft Windows 11 Installation Media.
    • Boot from it and reinstall Windows.

💡 Tip: If you see any error codes or blinking lights, note them they help diagnose hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello,

I hear you — this is frustrating, but let’s slow it down and fix it methodically.
When an HP computer says it “can’t enter recovery mode”, it usually means the recovery environment or boot configuration is broken, not that the whole PC is dead.

I’ll explain why this happens, then give you clear steps to recover or reinstall.

Why this error happens (plain explanation)

Your HP PC cannot enter recovery mode because one of these is true:

  1. Recovery partition is corrupted or deleted

  2. Windows boot files are damaged

  3. Disk errors are preventing recovery from loading

  4. You upgraded Windows and the old recovery no longer matches

  5. Secure Boot / UEFI state is blocking recovery

This is common after:

  • Failed Windows updates

  • Forced shutdowns

  • Disk space running very low

Step 1 – Try HP Hardware Diagnostics (tests the PC itself)

This checks if the hard drive is still healthy.

  1. Power OFF the PC

  2. Power ON and immediately tap Esc repeatedly

  3. Press F2 → HP Diagnostics

  4. Run:

    • System Test

    • Hard Drive Test

👉 If the hard drive test fails, stop here — Windows recovery won’t work until the drive is replaced.

Step 2 – Try BIOS recovery (important if Windows won’t load)

This restores low-level firmware if it’s broken.

  1. Power OFF

  2. Hold Windows + B

  3. Press Power for 2–3 seconds

  4. Release Power but keep Windows + B pressed

  5. Wait up to 30 seconds

If you see a BIOS recovery screen → let it complete.

Step 3 – Use HP Cloud Recovery (official HP fix)

If built-in recovery is broken, this is the correct HP-supported method.

You’ll need:

  • Another working computer

  • A 16 GB USB flash drive

On the working computer:

  1. Download HP Cloud Recovery Tool

  2. Install and run it

  3. Enter your HP product number (from sticker on your PC)

  4. Create the recovery USB

On your HP computer:

  1. Insert the USB

  2. Power ON → tap Esc

  3. Press F9 (Boot Menu)

  4. Select the USB

  5. Follow on-screen steps to reinstall Windows

This fully rebuilds recovery and Windows.

Step 4 – Clean Windows install (last resort)

If Cloud Recovery fails but hardware is OK:

  1. Create a Windows installation USB from Microsoft

  2. Boot from USB (Esc → F9)

  3. Delete old Windows partitions

  4. Install Windows fresh

⚠️ This removes all data.

What NOT to do

  • Don’t keep forcing “Reset this PC” repeatedly

  • Don’t power off mid-repair

  • Don’t change random BIOS settings
