HP Pavilion - 15-cs3024tx

I own an HP Pavilion laptop that is approximately seven years old and has a third-party replacement motherboard installed.

Recently, the laptop began experiencing intermittent automatic shutdowns. During troubleshooting, the technician reported that the 3V power rail was intermittently low while the 5V rail appeared normal. A repair was performed, and I paid approximately ₹3,500 for the repair and ₹2,950 for a battery replacement.

After further troubleshooting, the technician informed me that the tests had passed and returned the laptop. However, the laptop still shuts down during the first few power-on attempts and appears to operate normally for several hours once it becomes stable.

I would like HP's technical guidance on the possible causes of this intermittent shutdown behaviour, particularly in relation to the third-party replacement motherboard, power circuitry, cooling system and internal connections.

Please advise which diagnostic checks would be appropriate and whether there are any additional precautions or service options I should consider before spending more on repairs.

Hi @jay875,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand that your HP Pavilion - 15-cs3024tx continues to shut down intermittently, particularly during the first few startup attempts, even after the recent repair and battery replacement.

I also understand that the notebook currently has a third-party replacement motherboard installed. Since this is not the original HP system board, we cannot confirm the condition, compatibility, or previous repairs performed on that component through the HP Support Community.

If you're able to power on the notebook, please run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tests to check the hardware:

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  4. Run the available hardware tests.
  5. If a component fails, please make a note of the 24-digit Failure ID and the affected component.

The UEFI diagnostics operate outside the operating system and are designed to help identify and isolate hardware problems.

If the diagnostics report a hardware failure, or if the notebook shuts down before the tests can be completed, I recommend having the notebook physically inspected at an HP Authorized Service Center: HP® Service Center Locator - India | HP® Support. Please inform the service center that the system board has previously been replaced with a third-party component and that board-level repair has already been performed.

Considering the previous motherboard replacement and repair work, I would suggest having the hardware properly diagnosed before spending on any additional replacement parts.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
