Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I bought a laptop refurbished, seems fine in most ways...

Except the previous owner's name is still listed as a User. Doesn't seem right, does it?

How to erase this AND make sure nothing else of hers is still on here??

Did you buy it from HP? If it has Windows 10 you can go into settings (gear icon) recovery and choose reset and then choose to remove all previous files and start over. This is equivalent to a clean new installation.

I bought it from Fry's a big chain store here. However, I have already sinstalled and used the computer for over a week before I noticed this. I do not want to wipe the whole laptop - I just want to remove this user. Again - odd that it's still here on a newly-refurbished computer.

Not with Frys. I buy stuff there all the time and can tell you they do have issues with returns. They are very quick to stick them back on the shelf but if you know what you are doing you can get good deals that way. I would be worried the prior user had introduced some malware, and would want to wipe it clean. You can certainly back up any data you have created to an external drive of some sort. But if all you want to do is remove that prior user you can do it from the user app in the settings.

I bought a refurbished lap top from FYS there is no way to get in to the computer, the previous owner has his name on the screen and I can't get past that because I don't know the password. What can I do

Can we have the model number of the laptop? You can see if the factory restore function still works. Tap esc + f2 as you power up.

I think it's TPN-C126 that's the only number on the bottom that is not a serial number or an address for HP.

I'm afraid of factory restore now, as I've been using this now for ages, and might lose some of the setup that I have now. It's not been a problem as such, just a little weird to see someone else's name at times...
