HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My son's gaming laptop is 1 month out of warranty...

Over Christmas, we started experiencing the Windows blue screen of death and tried to perform a system recovery.  The recovery got to about 65% complete and failed.  the problem now is the laptop has no operating system.  How can I install Windows 10 (I already have a license for the copy that came with the laptop) from a USB drive?

it is very annoying that HP does not have a phone number to call and discuss this issue.

Hi:

See if your notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool on another Windows PC running Windows 7 64 bit or newer to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility...you will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the bootable recovery drive.

@MoRetz

Easiest is to use the following way: Go to the following site

          https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

(a) to create ISO file

(b) mount ISO file as DVD drive

                 mount.png

(c) and run Setup from there.

You can keep existing your files and programs if you wish.

Regards.

I have the flash drive now and the laptop did initially go through the process of recovering.  Now it just freezes when attempting turning on.  It gets stuck on an all black screen with only HP logo appearing on it.  The spinning wheel stops and nothing seems to happen.  Been stuck on this screen for awhile now.

If you made the HP recovery media with the cloud recovery tool, what did you do next?

The way it is supposed to work is you have the flash drive in a USB port.

Tun on or restart the PC.

Immediately press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the USB flash recovery drive and press the Enter key.

The PC should boot from the flash drive, and you then follow the on screen instructions to have the cloud recovery media reinstall the software.

That's exactly what I did.  Just freezes.  I should have stuck with Dell.

Throwing the laptop in the pool.  Cut my losses.
