HP Stream 11

Hi All,

Hadn't used the HP Stream 11 laptop for some time.

Turned it and and nothing.

Wanted to perform a recovery session and nothing.

Went to a reinstallation following the directions and this failed. Subsequently trying to restart the laptop it now says it is unable to restart and files/partitions missing.

Tried to reinstall windows 8 from a usb but have no windows activation key (as it was preinstalled).

How can I get the Windows Activation Key for the laptop?

Thanks

Hi:

The product key is in the BIOS.

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply.

It is the windows activation key I need (25 character code), which I cannot find.

Do you know how I can get this?

Thanks

Tim

You're very welcome, Tim.

Yes I know that, the 25 character Windows product key is in the BIOS, and if you can't get into Windows, then you won't be able to see the product key.

I need to know the product number of your notebook, so I can give you a way to reinstall Windows for free (unless your notebook came with W8.1 with Bing).

The product number should tell me what version of Windows your notebook came with from the factory.

Hi Paul,

I can get into the BIOS via F11 on startup but can't see a 25 character key.

the product key is L2U07EA#ABU

Thanks

The key is not visible in the BIOS.

You need special software to see it in Windows.

OK...the specs for your notebook indicate that it comes with the plain version of W8.1 64 bit.

If the specs are right, then you should be able to install the plain version of W8.1 64 bit by downloading the ISO file from the link below.  Windows should not even ask for a product key.  If it is, then you must have the version of W8.1 with Bing.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

So if this is the file you downloaded, we have to get the edition of W8.1.

Use this generic product key just so you can get W8.1 installed, and then run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below that will show you the product key and version of W8.1 that is in the BIOS.

Post the report of the version of Windows.  Not the key.

This is the part of the report I need to see....this is from my PC's information in the BIOS from the showkey plus report...

OEM Edition: Win 8.1 RTM Professional OEM:DM
