Hi,
Have an HP Pavillion laptop / mdl 13-a010dx.. Performance quite degraded and sometimes malfunctioning, ie, display flashes or presents odd grfx and extremely slow to respond. Is there a way to do a clean install of w10 home? I haven't excluded bad memory, board, or hard drive but nothing seems actually broken. The laptop still works but as above extremely slow at times. More than half of the ~500 gig drive is free, No exotic apps installed, libre office, word perfect, thunderbird, firefox, and of course, all the useless stuff that hp installs but you can't quite get rid of.
I'm assuming that hp has a model specific "System Recovery" on a USB drive as I have one for an hp Envy, I'm also wondering if I could just set up a thumb drive with a plain old windows home or pro and ditch all the hp stuff entirely. Or is there anything in the firmware that would interfere with that? Or does the hp w10 license work for a generic version of w10.
From there, of course, since I do have a license for the HP version that was installed when I bought it, can I choose NOT to install the hp stuff? Or if I have to ditch the hp license would I be looking at buying a new w10 OS?
Oh The Joy!

Hi:
The PC originally came with W8.1 from HP, so your only option would be to clean install W10.
HP Pavilion 13-a010dx x360 Convertible PC | HP® Customer Support
Make a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
Boot from the installation media.
After you get past the Install Now screen, you will be asked to select what version of W10 you want to install.
Select W10 home.
Then you will be asked to enter a product key.
Select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and activate after you are connected to the internet.
Then you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
