The Microsoft account allows you to log into your PC.

 

I do not believe that it has anything do do with activation.

 

If you have Microsoft Office, you may need your Microsoft account to activate Office.

 

The Windows product key is in the BIOS and after you log into Windows you should see that Windows is activated.

 

I would set up a local account by following the guidance in the link I posted so you can use the PC and make sure that Windows is activated.

 

Then you can follow up with Microsoft later to retrieve your old account.
