HP Folio-13 1020us
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The SSD in my HP Folio-13 1020us ultrabook died recently. I am in the process of ordering a new one but I must reinstall Windows 7 from a USB using the iso file. However my code on the bottom for Windows 7 Home Premium will not work at the Microsoft website https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 because it says I need to contact the manufacturer. Can HP give me a file or iso or a code that works so I can re-install Windows 7 on this ultrabook and get it working again? Otherwise I'm not sure what to do, the thing is dead so I can't really access the recovery partition.

Hi:

W7 is not available for download from HP.

You can make your own W7 installation media from this link below...

Click on the Windows ISO Downloader.exe link to download the tool to create the W7 ISO file download.

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-downl...

I have zipped up and attached the Microsoft utility below, that will allow you to either put the file on a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD.

Wow, thank you so much Paul! The new mSSD I'm going to try to install won't arrive until tomorrow, but I went ahead and made the bootable Windows 7 USB iso with your tool and that other website you linked. I assume when I do the fresh Windows 7 install it will ask for my product key? I hope it is accepted then!

You're very welcome.

Yes, W7 will ask for a product key and yes, the one on your notebook's Windows COA sticker should work.

Just make sure you take your time and enter the product key characters correctly.

Hey man, unfortunately I used your tool but I'm getting No Bootable Device - insert boot disk and press any key. Even though the USB is in there. Any ideas? I used your tool to make my 128 GB samsung USB with the windows iso I downloaded so I don't know what the deal is.

Hi:

I'm looking at the user guide for your notebook (because I can't find any product specs on it), and it indicates that it has one USB 2 port and one USB 3 port.

You have to boot from the notebook's USB 2 port because W7 does not have the required USB 3 drivers for it to work from the USB 3 port.

According to the user guide, the USB 2 port is on the right side of the notebook.

If that doesn't get the USB flash drive to boot to W7, test it on another PC and see if it boots from that one.

You can cancel the installation, so don't worry about it just installing W7 on your other PC.

Nevermind, I tried it again but just left it in the USB slot on the laptop when I powered down then powered up, and it is now recognizing the boot disk. Thanks again
