HP Envy X360 15t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I replaced the NVMe HDD in my Envy and reviewed the other question/answer about how to reload Windows 10 from a crash.  I created the USB drive and downloaded HP drivers however when I try to load onto the computer with the new HDD, the USB flashes a few times and the computer turns off, it won't let me do anything.  Any ideas?

Newer model laptop come with something called Secure Boot enabled and with that, the PC will not boot from anything other than the internal drive, and since yours is likely blank, it won't boot from that either.

When you reboot, press the Esc key repeatedly to get the HP Startup Menu then press F10 to get into settings.  You have to look for secure boot and disable it.  Then reboot with the USB connected but again press the Esc key repeatedly but this time, select the Boot Devices menu.  If your USB stick shows up, that means you can boot from it and then when your reboot again, press F9 repeatedly to get the Boot Devices menu and select the USB drive.

Ok, followed directions, no change.  I get the HP symbol and the rotating dots but after 10-15 seconds, the laptop turns off.

Did you confirm that the USB stick shows up under the Boot Devices menu?

And when you select that, do you see a little window open and then a countdown of Windows preparing the install?

Yes, I see the USB stick, I have it selected and the light on the USB stick flashes when initially starting the computer but no install window shows up.  The computer turns itself off before any window pops up.  I am wondering if this is a motherboard issue.

If secure boot was still enabled, you would not see the USB stick in the Boot Devices menu.  But there is a BIOS option in some newer PCs that is Disable Booting from portable devices -- but again, if that was ON, I would think you would not even be able to try to boot from the USB stick.

One possibility is that the new SSD is incompatible with the PC -- but if it is the same as the old one, only larger capacity, that should not be an issue.  Plus, if it was incompatible, it should not show up in the BIOS settings.

You could try running diagnostics but they don't do thorough checks of the motherboard.

Should the new drive be formated first?  The new drive is NVMe Crucial 1TB, replacing the Lite-on 256GB NVMe that came with the computer.  Same connection to the motherboard, from my analysis, the specs make them look compatable.

When I put the old HDD in, it is an option on the boot menu.  When I put the new drive in, it is not a boot option.IMG_1834[1].JPG
