Hi,

My laptop failed with a 'Smart Disk' error. I have since removed the disk, attached it to another laptop, formatted it, tested it and put it back in the laptop.

I am now trying to put back Windows10 by booting off a Win10 installation system on a USB memory stick, so far so good.

The issue is that windows won't install as it is telling me that the system is going to fail soon. Having fully tested the disk, how do I tell the laptop "Smart Disk" system, that I've reformatted and the disk is ok ?

Unless you made the Windows installation media using the HP CLoud Recovery tool -- you are making a BIG MISTAKE! Why? Because MS media will only include the Generic drives that MS has, not the custom drivers that HP has and your laptop needs. So, even if you CAN get the install to work, some of the hardware on your laptop will not function properly -- due to the lack of drivers.

 

If your PC is a 2016 model or newer, you should see if you can make a bootable USB recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery tool on a working PC.


The recovery drive can then be used to install Windows and the HP drivers and utilities that originally came with your PC.


You will need a working PC and a 32GB USB stick to hold the recovery files. Here is the link:

You use the Microsoft Store to download the actual tool:

As to the laptop "smart disk" system, I have no idea.
