HP Pavilion g7-2325dx Notebook PC

Recently I tried to factory reset the laptop for the 100th time with the same result as always, I've tried what I could including even using reagentc /diskenable and disable tactics someone recommended I try in powershell. The result when factory resetting is the fact that the screen goes black and comes back hours later saying no changes were made. My brother in law and I went through the bios menu to try and figure out what was wrong from a hunch he had. End results was it saying the computer could not do anything without a said bootdisk. This laptop was originally my mothers. (hence why I want to factory reset) She has no idea where the disks went or the fact that it even came with any disks. Where can I get replacement disks so that I'm able to go through with a full factory reset?

Recovery Media can be ordered from your Support page:

Hi:

Now, before you go spending $$$ for a set of disks, try this...it's free and it will only take a little time.

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working...You want W8.1 64 bit.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

Only if you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'Standard.'

334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 'Standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or usb flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your notebook's support page.

Thank you.  I was trying to work out if ot was a 32 bit or 64 bit.  How can I tell?

The reason I ended up with this problem was that I had to reinstall Windows 8.1 and as I was doing all of the udating, which took hours, it came arocss an update it didn't agree with which caused this problem.

I don't think this notebook can cope with windows 10

Only 2 GB memory and I have been told not upgradeable.  Only really need this notebook when my tablet can not cope with a website / program / 3D secure credit card purchase etc.

I am a bit reluctant to have to reinstall everything again.  Was hoping I could just get it booted up and then reverse the last few installed updates.

Hi:

Your PC came with W8 64 bit from HP, and you can upgrade the memory from 2 GB to 8 GB (2 x 4 GB).

Here is the link to the service manual.  Chapter 1 has the memory upgrade info, chapter 4 has the memory installation procedure.

Memory is fairly inexpensive for your model.

If you decide to upgrade the memory, just make sure you get DDR3 (1.5V memory) and not DDR3L (1.35V memory) for your model.

You can max out the memory by removing the 2 GB module and installing 2 x 4 GB module for about the cost of the recovery disks.
