Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I'm switching out the motherboard from a 15-f223nr for a 15-f223wm.

Will the HD from the f223nr work with the 'new' motherboard, or do I need a new recovery/boot disk for the f223wm board and BIOS?

The problem is not the drive "working"; instead, the problem is one of Windows licensing.

Your PC came with an HP OEM Version of windows and that license is tied directly to the motherboard.

When you swap out the motherboard, you are essentially throwing away the Windows license -- and the new motherboard will not work with your old license.  And, HP does not sell OEM licenses, so there is no way for you to get a second license.

You would have to end up BUYING a license to run Windows with the new motherboard -- and you might also have to download and install the Windows version to match that license (Retail vs System Builder).
