Hello. I recently bought this hp laptop with the model mentioned from a seller one of my countrys websites, if neccessary I'm willing to share more information regarding the transaction. I started it up and it was perfectly fine but as with all the new laptops I've bought, btw this was used, I like to reinstall the operating system just to be sure everything's clean. I tried to boot into the BIOS but I saw it had a password. I am able to boot freely into my operating system but not in bios. I tried to use third party softwares such as cmospwd and a friend of mine removed and inserted the cmos battery but with no success. I do not know what to do at this point and I can not get in contact with the seller. I was thinking of sending an email to hp support but decided that a forum post would be a great idea. If you could list some of the options I could take to reset the bios password I'd greatly appreciate it. If anyone needs extra information regarding the hardware or software just feel free to reply.

Sorry, but I don't have very good news for you ...

First off, removing and replacing CMOS batteries in laptops does not reset the BIOS as it does in desktops. So that was basically wasting your time.

Second, the Forum Policies no longer permit us to assist customers in bypassing BIOS passwords.

For assistance in this now, you have to contact HP Customer Support directly as they have to confirm ownership of the PC before providing any assistance -- something we can not do.

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (650) 857-1501.
