My screen went blank a few weeks ago. Video worked when plugged into an external monitor but no screen. I assumed it was a screen problem, replaced it, but now the digitizer won't work, so no touch screen. The screen replacement company suggested I reset the bios. I've also had random other issues with sound turning off, the machine restarting. I believe resetting the bios is a good idea. I've read the other posts on how to do it, holding down certain keys, using a USB stick, nothing seems to work. Is there an updated set of instructions to reset the BIOS back to the beginning BIOS? I'm probably 5 versions further down the road, on the latest version and it won't let go.

I think you may have been misled or misunderstood. BIOS very rarely or never can be reverted backwards. A BIOS recovery process may be able to restore a corrupted BIOS to the last good version, however.
What you are proposing is not possible, IMHO.

So effectively, the instructions posted here:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833
will not actually work to reset the bios to a prior version.
I've actually done this several times on other brands, starting with the first version of the bios and working my way up through the versions to fix a problem. I've never owned HP, so I thought it would work similarly.
This computer had an unrecoverable hard drive crash within the warranty period and they replaced it. Now the screen went blank 4 months after the warranty expired. I'm not having much luck with HP or support.
Ultimately I just want the digitizer to work and deleting the device, installing new drivers, nothing works. That's why we are here today trying to reset the BIOS. Something from the HP side did an update around October and now the thing is flaking out, just trying to undo whatever they did. I did a factory reset and everything, still no digitizer, still shutting down randomly.

At least you found a guide to show how it might be possible. I am not aware that it will go back to the first BIOS but it is still available, give it a try.
Here are the options
If you look at previous version of the BIOS files, they go back to the first version
F.03 Rev.A SP75635.exe
Give it a try until you get one that does install and report back. I am interested if this really is possible.
