Hi, I am having problems with my Bit Locker Key.  I deleted an Anti-Virus product then it appeared.  I checked my email through Microsoft and I don't have the Bit Locker Key and it wasn't saved on a USB drive.  Is there a way I can reinstall the software?  I don't have anything saved on this PC I just started using it this PC.

Thank you,

CooperTL

Hi, Cooper:

If you don't have the BitLocker recovery key, you will have to clean install W11 on the encrypted drive.

Make a bootable USB installation flash drive with the Microsoft media creation tool from the link below (2nd option).

Download Windows 11

Boot from the W11 installation media.

Because your PC has an Intel 11th gen core processor, you will need to load the Intel storage controller drivers that I zipped up and attached below, so Windows can find the drive.

Copy all of the files in both folders in the attached file to a USB flash drive.

Have the flash drive and your Windows installation media plugged into USB ports.

Boot from the Windows installation flash drive.

When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver, and Windows should see the drive.

Then you have to clean the drive so Windows can install on the encrypted drive using the Diskpart utility.

  1. Press Shift+F10 from inside Windows Setup screen to open a command prompt window.
  2. Type diskpart and press the Enter key.
  3. Type list disk to find your disk number.
  4. Type select disk (e.g., select disk0) to choose the disk you want to format.
  5. Finally, type clean to wipe the disk completely.
  6. Exit diskpart and install Windows.

Thank you for your quick reply yesterday.  I am still having some problems trying to reinstall the software.  Is there a store I can walk into for some help?

You're very welcome.

Now that you have Windows installed on the PC, try using the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will return the drive to its 'out of the box' condition.

Here is the link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this:

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store:
