@Colm-M,

Your i7 13th gen processor requires the Windows installer to have Intel RST VMD driver to detect the storage drive to install Windows on.

Your driver download page lists the following IRST driver. Download it, extract driver files from it and attach them to a Windows installation USB drive.

You can take steps below to complete the Windows installation:

1. Connect your Windows installation usb drive to the desktop.

2. Right-click on the downloaded sp 145421 file and click on "Open with administrator" to start the extraction process.

3. When you are asked where to save files, with the default directory path being displayed, click on Next.

4. Go to C:\SWSetup and locate the sp145421 folder that holds extracted files. Double click the folder then F6 -> VMD -> f6vmdflpy-x64. Make sure it has five files in it then copy the f6vmdflpy-x64 folder to the root directory of the Windows installation usb drive.

5. Run the Windows installation from the usb drive, and when you are asked where to install Windows, click on Load Driver.

6. Click on Browse then click the usb drive in the window that opens.

7. Click on the f6vmdflpy-x64 folder and click OK. Place a check mark to display the compatible drivers only.

8. If a driver is displayed, click OK.

9. If the storage drive is displayed with partitions, delete all partitions to see "Drive 0 (or 1) Unallocated space" then click Next to proceed the installation.

Hi Tk_srq,

Thanks for this insight. However I have an issue copying this over to the root folder per screenshot:

I have tried to change the disk attributes for readonly to be turned off, I have also attempted to turn off read only via registry editor.

If your Win11 pro desktop is on BitLocker encryption and you created a Windows installation usb drive on it, perhaps the usb drive is encrypted. If so, you can't add data to it.

If that's the case, the easiest way is to create a Windows installation usb drive and add IRST driver to it on another PC that doesn't have full-fledged BitLocker encryption on (WIn10/11 Home PC with device encryption on is ok to use).

If you are trying to attach the entire sp145421 folder to the usb drive, you need to copy only the f6vmdflpy-x64 folder to the usb drive.

  • recreate the bootable media in Rufus in GPT Mode and attempt install. It will work just fine. thats what i did and it worked. boot attempt in UEFI will give you this error in detecting drives/drivers
