How can I reset my laptop with an external monitor? The screen that came with the laptop is cracked and I am trying to reset my laptop. How can I do that?

The problem with using any external monitor with a laptop is that, in nearly all cases, the monitor will not show anything until the Windows drivers for the port is is connected to are loaded.
If you reboot and press the Esc key repeatedly and do not see anything on the external monitor, then most likely, you are not going to be able to use that to do a reset.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP
