Hi @Jing12

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing what you've tried so far. It sounds like your HP Chromebook 11 G3/G4 (Kip) is powering on but failing to boot into Chrome OS, leaving you with a black screen after the logo.

Let’s walk through a few steps that can help bring it back to life:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary hardware states and may restore normal boot behavior.

  1. Disconnect the charger.
  2. Press and hold Refresh (⟳) and Power together for 10 seconds.
  3. Release both buttons and wait a few seconds.
  4. Press Power again to turn it on.

If the screen remains black, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Try Recovery Mode

This allows you to reinstall Chrome OS using a recovery image.

  1. Turn off the Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Esc + Refresh, then press Power.
  3. Release Power while still holding Esc + Refresh.
  4. You should see a recovery screen. If not, wait 30 seconds and try again.

If the recovery screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions. You’ll need another computer and a USB drive to create a recovery image using the Chrome OS Recovery Utility.

Step 3: Check for BIOS Access

If you’re seeing a BIOS screen but can’t reset it:

  • BIOS on Chromebooks is limited and not user-resettable like on Windows PCs.
  • If you’ve enabled Developer Mode previously, it may interfere with normal boot.
  • To disable Developer Mode:
    1. Turn off the Chromebook.
    2. Press Esc + Refresh + Power.
    3. When the recovery screen appears, press Ctrl + D, then press Enter.
    4. This will attempt to restore the verified OS.

Step 4: External Display Test (Optional)

If the screen goes black but the device seems to stay on, try connecting to an external monitor via HDMI. This helps rule out a display issue.
