After having many severe computer issues which I do not believe to be a fault of the user, I decided to do a factory reset. I opened up HP Manager, and asked it to reboot to the the recovery manager. I selected minimal image recovery, and let it do it's thing.
At some point, it said "Restoration Incomplete", with the following log:
[17:56:01.30] ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some error during PININST_BBV.
[17:56:01.33] ChkErrBB.CMD : Check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
[17:56:01.33] ChkErrBB.CMD : or, check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log

there might be unexpected reboot during BBV Clean or Last...
The process will cause CTO panic because the image might not be normal...
I've googled around a bit, trying the solutions, including restoring BIOS settings to default, and setting the time to the year 2012, and performing a hard reset. Neither solution has worked.
I don't have any recovery discs.
What are my options? And does this sound like something the computer should be returned under warranty for?
Thanks.

You shouldn't have to enter the Microsoft Windows 8.1 license activation key.
It is coded in the BIOS and the OS should activate when you go online.
Make sure that you install the version of Windows that your notebook was delivered with. Otherwise there could be an activation issue.

Is your notebook still in warranty?
Check your warranty status Here.
Contact HP for warranty service. You may or may not have to pay to have a usb HP recovery flashdrive sent to you. You may be requested to send your notebook in for warranty service at an HP Service Center.

Assuming I entered the correct values, it does say the warranty out of date. However, I assume that's in error. It says it the warranty ended a few months ago, and the computer was only purchased a few months ago. I'm not sure what the exact purchase date was.
I'm currently downloading the Windows 8 ISO on to a USB. I'm hoping that I won't have to enter the product key again as I currently can't find the box/books that came with the laptop.
If it works, I'll continue to monitor behaviour, and if issues reoccur, I'll have to return it. I currently can't do that for another couple of weeks at least though.
Replicating the issue may take quite some time, so should I attempt to record the issue on video?

I am having the same issue. I cannot restore my HP Pavilion DV7 to factory conditions. At first I was getting a Restore Failure Error and I changed the BIOS date to 02/01/2012 like it was suggested in another forum post. Now it just gives me a "Restoration Incomplete" error.
I have copied the error log. Can anyone make sense of this:
