Hi
I own a HP Pavilion 15-ec2004AX laptop. OS Windows 10 22H2 BIOS v - F28
I have been facing black screen issue repeatedly after the BIOS upgrade. Naturally I tried to rollback the BIOS to previo.us version but HP had restricted the option. BIOS Recovery USB fails too.
My question is if AFUWINx64 or AFUDOS be useful to resolve the issue ??
if yes, please share the steps

There is an F.29 bios that was released Nov, 2024
Looking at the revision history I do not see any warning about downgrading.
Those files you mentioned are not used by the newer HP systems. Optionally the executable BIOS can create a ROM image that can be read from a USB by using the Win-B keyboard procedure.
Make sure you can pass all UEFI diagnostics before any BIOS upgrade.
Check to see if there is a hardware problem.
Tap the ESC key after powering on. Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics.
If a component fails during the UEFI test then Click here to check warranty
If the component is not tested then possibly it is in the updated version of UEFI diagnostics.
HP releases newer UEFI diagnostics periodically. When you select F2 during boot you are requesting UEFI diagnostics. There is an updated diagnostics package Click Here Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS', Expand the '+' symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button. The version of the UEFI diagnostics is shown at the left of that DOWNLOAD button. When you press F2 to run diagnostics please ensure the version is the new one. |
The can be installed from a USB flash drive if necessary.

lDK, you will have to try it. Note that your laptop appears to be working although not to your needs.
Can you pass diagnostics?
Did F.29 help?
It is always dangerous to upgrade bios.
Check your warranty and decided if you want to risk a BIOS upgrade like these users did

Hi BeemerBiker
Yeah the diagnostics are fine no issues detected
I have not yet upgraded to F.29 yet due to inherent risk of bricking the system
As regards to laptop working well it is a bit of stretch so I have decided to try the rollback process as mentioned below
Step 1 - BIOS Upgrade F.28 - F.29
Step 2 - Create a bios recovery disk - F.26
Step 3 - Attempt BIOS rollback using Windows+B key and BIOS recovery usb stick
please see and suggest any changes (if req)
