Ryzen 5000 AMD Series Notebook

I obtained a 17-inch Ryzen 5000 Series Notebook that my neighbor had replaced because it kept on going to blue screen after a few minutes of powering up. The desktop would appear, then comes the blue screen.

I tried to work with it. By mistake when pressing the power button, I’d tap F8 then the screen goes black. I turned it off, back on – same thing. It’s on but a black screen still appears.

Went online for troubleshooting: Disconnected the power cord, pressed the power for 15 seconds, plugged it back in and turned back on but still a black screen, but the power light stays on. Next thing I did was to turn it back off then while pressing F10, still a black screen.

Any other options, or is the notebook just dead, even though it’s “on”, and charges?

If there’s no salvaging it, it’s okay because I have two notebooks of my own, but hoping I could salvage this one, I would’ve given it to a friend.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I try to give folks here honest answers -- even if the news is not good.

In this case, the answer is "not easily" -- as BSODs are very, very difficult to diagnose and fix -- far beyond what we can do from here.  They can be caused by almost anything -- hardware and software -- so working out solutions is long, hard, and often, disappointing.  But if you're willing to do the research and commit the time, you could end up with a working laptop.

But you also need to understand that any personal information contained in the filesystem (like logins, credit card info. banking info) will still be there even if you go to the trouble to reformat the drive or do a factory reset.  The only SAFE solution is to totally WIPE the drive -- but that requires complete reinstallation of Windows, and since HP does not offer downloads anymore, you have to use their Cloud Recovery tool and your own 32GB USB stick to create the install media.

Just letting you know, that if you go down this path of fixing up the laptop, you're looking at a LOT of work!
