Hi @MrAlpinaMan ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to update the BIOS and recover Windows on a new SSD for your HP ENVY X360 - 13-ag0999na, you can follow these steps:
Step 1: Prepare the Recovery Media
- Obtain Recovery Media:
- From HP: If you didn't create a recovery drive before your SSD failed, you can order a recovery USB from HP. Visit the HP Support website and search for recovery media for your specific model.
- Create on Another Computer: If you have access to another Windows 10 computer, you can create a Windows 10 installation media using the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.
Step 2: Update the BIOS
Download BIOS Update:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
- Download the latest BIOS update for your model.
Create a BIOS Update USB:
- Follow the instructions provided with the BIOS update download. Usually, it involves copying the BIOS update file to a USB drive and creating a bootable USB.
Update the BIOS:
- Insert the BIOS update USB into your laptop.
- Power on your laptop and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F10 to enter the BIOS setup utility.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to update the BIOS.
Step 3: Install Windows on the New SSD
Insert the Recovery Media:
- Insert the Windows 10 installation media (USB or DVD) into your laptop.
Boot from Installation Media:
- Power on your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then press F9 to enter the Boot Menu.
- Select the USB drive or DVD as the boot device and press Enter.
Install Windows:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 10 on your new SSD. During the installation process, you can choose to format the new SSD to ensure a clean installation.
Activate Windows:
- If prompted, enter your Windows 10 product key. If your laptop came with Windows 10 pre-installed, it should automatically activate once connected to the internet.
Step 4: Install Drivers and Updates
Install HP Drivers:
- After Windows installation, go to the HP Support website and download the necessary drivers for your model. Install them one by one.
Windows Update:
- Run Windows Update to ensure your system has the latest patches and updates.
Additional Tips
- Backup Important Data: Before proceeding with the installation, ensure that you have backed up any important data from the old SSD if possible.
- Create Recovery Drive: Once the new system is up and running, create a recovery drive to avoid similar issues in the future.
