Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
You can change the USB settings so that your tablet will sync, charge, etc. when connected to a computer. Both the MTP ( Media Transfer Protocol) and USB mass storage mode have similar functions that enable the transfer of files.
Also, you can change the settings on Tablets.
- Go to Settings > More…
- In More, tap on USB Utilities.
- Then, touch Connect Storage to PC.
- Now, plug your USB cable into your PC, and then into your Android® device. A screen will appear with the green Android icon with a USB Connected on the screen. Press OK. When successful, the Android® icon will turn orange.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi, Echo Lake
Thanks for the quick response!!
On the Samsung Galaxy S3, under Settings, More settings there are options only for Airplane mode, Printing, VPN, and Media share nearby devices (ie, via wi-fi or mobile hotspot).
However, once the tablet is plugged into the pc, you can drag the tablet notification bar down and you have a choice of MTP or PTP. There is no choice for "storage."
PTP is apparently photos only; MTP allows fle transfer. The tablet is set to MTP.
But thanks again. Any other ideas?

As you've performed relevant troubleshooting steps and other devices functions normally, it sounds like its not an issue with the computer hardware.
