@2010029, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing black screen issues and keyboard unresponsiveness when your system overheats, even after replacing the thermal paste and cleaning the internals. Let's work through this together.
BIOS and Firmware Update
Outdated BIOS or firmware can cause thermal mismanagement. Please update your BIOS to the latest version:
- Go to the Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support.
- Enter your product name or serial number.
- Download and install the latest BIOS update available.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
Use HP’s built-in diagnostics to check for hardware issues:
- Turn off the PC.
- Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the System Tests > Thermal Test and Component Tests > Processor.
Check for Software or Driver Conflicts
- Boot into Safe Mode and observe if the issue persists.
- If not, a third-party driver or software might be causing the overheating. Use HP Support Assistant to update all drivers: Download HP Support Assistant
Power Settings and Performance Tuning
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select Balanced or Power Saver.
- Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Under Processor power management, set Maximum processor state to 80–90%.
Thermal Paste and Fan Check
Since you've already replaced the thermal paste and cleaned the fans:
- Ensure the thermal paste is applied in a thin, even layer.
- Confirm that all fans are spinning and not obstructed.
- Consider using a cooling pad if it's a laptop.
Keyboard Unresponsive During Overheat
This could be a motherboard or embedded controller issue. If the keyboard becomes unresponsive only during overheating, it may be a thermal protection mechanism.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Select "Yes" on the bottom left to say “Thanks” for helping!
