HP 15 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi can someone please help me... I have a HP 15 Notebook PC and it fell and the screen cracked and i had the screen removed and my harddrive was damaged so i had that replaced with Windows 8.1 preinstalled.

I connected my laptop to a external display using HDMI. The laptop turned on saying "Boot device not Found Please install operating system"..... I've watched several youtube videos on how to fix this and it showed that i must enable Legacy Boot.

After Enabling Legacy boot my laptop restarted and the screen was blank. I pressed escape and it got back to the previous problem *Boot device not found*.

Why does my display go blank when enabling legacy boot and how do i fix this?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Step 1: Perform a hard reset  (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)
  • Step 2: Restore BIOS default settings
  • Step 3: Test the hard drive using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
  • Step 4: Reseat the hard drive
  • Step 5: Perform an HP System Recovery
  • Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01443463 to complete the troubleshooting steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
