Hi,
The 601 error is actually a little misleading - it actually refers to your notebooks main lithium ion battery and not the rtc ( cmos ) cell on the system board. It generally starts to appear when the LiOH battery charge capacity has fallen below 25% of its original value. Further details on this can be found on the following HP Document.
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443470
The only solution to this is to get the battery replaced - if your notebook is still under warranty, this would be covered - if needed, you can check your warranty status Here.

I keep getting the message " Storage capacity is low " when I turn on my computer , and it refers to " Battery 601 Internal " . I am not that smart when it comes to computers so I do not understand what that means . The computer I have is a Hewlit Packard , and it is about eight years old . I want to keep this computer for as long as possible . Where can I purchase the 601 battery the message is referring to ? I went to a Home Depot store , and they said it would cost $189.00 . Is there anywhere I can get this battery at a more reasonable price ? What will the new battery do for my computer ?
Thank you for taking the time to read my inquiry . I will be looking forward to hearing back from you .
Sincerely
RALPH
