Hi @Johnnyboy52
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear your husband's HP laptop is stuck on the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). It can be frustrating, but there are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue quickly.
1. Note the Error Code
First, look for the error code or message displayed on the Blue Screen. It often includes a STOP code (e.g., 0x0000007E, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, etc.) that can help identify the specific problem. If possible, make a note of it.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
If the laptop is stuck on the BSOD, try performing a hard reset:
- Turn off the laptop by holding the power button for 10-15 seconds until it shuts down.
- Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.) and the power adapter.
- Wait for a minute, then reconnect the power adapter.
- Press the power button again to restart the laptop.
A hard reset can sometimes resolve minor hardware or software conflicts.
3. Boot into Safe Mode
If the laptop is still stuck on the BSOD, you can try booting into Safe Mode to troubleshoot and fix issues.
Steps to Boot into Safe Mode:
- Turn off the laptop completely.
- Turn it on and immediately press the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
- Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode (or Safe Mode with Networking) and press Enter.
If you can successfully boot into Safe Mode, it means the issue is likely related to drivers or software.
4. Perform System Restore
If you can get into Safe Mode or Recovery Environment, you can use System Restore to roll back the laptop to a previous working state.
- Boot into Safe Mode (or Recovery Environment if you can’t boot into Safe Mode).
- Type System Restore in the search bar and select it.
- Choose a restore point that was created before the issue started and follow the prompts to restore the system.
- After the restore process is complete, restart the laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
