@Kitty_15, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check for stuck keys
Press every key on the keyboard one by one, especially arrow keys, Page Down, Spacebar, and Ctrl.
Try gently cleaning the keyboard with compressed air.
If you have a USB keyboard connected, unplug it and check if the problem continues.
Disconnect all external input devices
If you have an external mouse or keyboard, unplug them.
See if scrolling continues.
Disable the touchpad temporarily
Press Windows + I to open Settings → Devices → Touchpad.
Toggle touchpad off temporarily to check if it stops the scrolling.
If your laptop doesn’t allow this directly, try using the Device Manager:
Press Windows + X → Device Manager → expand “Mice and other pointing devices” → right-click the touchpad device → Disable device.
Test if the scrolling stops.
Check for malware
Run a full antivirus scan (Windows Defender or your preferred antivirus).
Update or reinstall drivers manually
Go to HP’s official site → enter your laptop model → download the latest touchpad and keyboard drivers.
In Device Manager, uninstall the touchpad driver, then install the downloaded driver fresh.
Try an external mouse
Connect an external mouse.
See if the scrolling behavior changes or stops.
Check Windows Accessibility settings
Go to Settings → Ease of Access → Keyboard.
Make sure “Sticky Keys” or “Filter Keys” are off.
Run System File Checker
Open Command Prompt as administrator (search "cmd", right-click → Run as administrator).
Run command: sfc /scannow
Wait for it to complete and fix any system issues.
Last resort: Restore system
If the issue started suddenly, try a system restore point to a day before the problem started.
Go to Control Panel → Recovery → Open System Restore → follow instructions.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
