hi, have just bought a Pavilion 10TS of the net and the previous owner doesn't know the Bios password.
I have had a few tries using obvious passwords but no joy and have the 8 digit code from the lockout screen, 38445237,
can anyone help with the response password please. I tried the code generator but to no avail.
Here's hoping one of you guys might be able to help.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Yeah, I know what you mean about accessing the battery
If it's possible to connect the power board to the system board when it has been removed, just do that and hold down the power button - otherwise, just leave the rtc out for a few hours just to make sure.

Hi,
You're welcome
In that case, check the following.
1. The halt code ( generated after 3 incorrect entries ) that you've posted is definetely correct.
2. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out for the moment ), start the notebook and try entering the code again.
3. Try entering the code via an external usb QWERTY keyboard.

Hi,
The unlock code for the checksum you've posted is correct - the only other option would be to hope that the code isn't stored in nvram, so it's worth removing the rtc cell, then hold down the power button for 60 seconds, leave the machine like this for a couple of hours before re-inserting the rtc.

Oh well, that's me busy for a while, these HP 10's are a pain to disassemble.
I was hoping to avoid this but I suppose it's time to bite the bullet and crack on with it.
many thanks for your help. If I get it sorted I'll update the thread.

Barry

Hi
silly question time, as the RTC battery is on the underside of the motherboard and it means removing everthing from inside the chassis to get to it, should I just remove the battery and leave it for an hour or so, or do I need to remove the battery and put everything back together then press the power button ?
Then take everything back out and replace the battery and reassemble?
The person who designed this is obviously an idiot !!
