Microsoft Windows 11

Recently i saw that my laptop had the secure boot off and when i tried to enable it the option shows greyed out in bios setting. I tried to reset the keys the option came on my bios to enable secure boot but after enabling it my pc restarts and then opens and on checking system information it shows that the secure boot state is disabled even after enabling it. i have TPM 2.0 and also have UEFI mode on. So a solution would be really helpful. Thanks.Screenshot 2025-07-21 112414.png

Hi @Deb298,

Thank you for the details.

Try these steps:

Check Configuration Requirements:

  • Ensure that you have set a BIOS Administrator Password, as an administrator password is required to activate Secure Boot settings. If you haven't set one, please do that first.

Ensure UEFI Mode is Correct:

  • Verify that your system is indeed in UEFI mode. Sometimes a BIOS setting may inadvertently revert to legacy boot mode, which can affect Secure Boot options.

Clear Secure Boot Keys:

  • In the BIOS, look for the option to clear the Secure Boot keys. This might resolve issues with greyed-out selections. Once cleared, reset the keys to factory defaults.

Enable Secure Boot:

  • After resetting the keys, attempt to enable Secure Boot again. Ensure you save the changes before exiting BIOS.

Check for BIOS Updates:

  • Visit HP's support website and ensure your BIOS is up-to-date. Outdated BIOS versions can sometimes cause functionality issues with Secure Boot.

Fix Potential TPM Issues:

  • Although your TPM is 2.0, verify its state and make sure it is enabled. Sometimes, resetting the TPM or ensuring it is in an "owned" state can assist with related issues.

Reset BIOS to Default Settings:

  • If none of the above steps work, consider resetting the BIOS to factory defaults. This action may enable Secure Boot if any configurations were prohibiting it.

I hope this helps.
