dm1z-3200
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I'm doing a  Win7 install on a new HD for my dm1z-3200 that had a hard disk crash.  Win 7 installed, but reports not detecting any networking hardware.

I went to the drivers page for the computer, but don't know which of the seven drivers to install.  I tried to install the HP Support Assistant, but got the report "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 is required" to complete the installation.  The .NET Framework won't install because it requires internet access by the target system in order to complete the installation download.

Any assistance would be sincerely appreciated!

Hi, @tbird66

If you post the hardware ID for the device you see in the device manager labeled as a Network Controller, I will post the link to the wifi card driver you need.

The network controller is what the wifi card is called when it doesn't have a driver installed.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID.

https://www.howtogeek.com/193798/how-to-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-the-device-manager/

You need this driver for the ethernet (wired network) adapter.

This package provides the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver that enables the Realtek Network Interface Card (NIC) Chip in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

Brute-force approach: try them all, one at a time, because it never "hurts" to install a device-driver for which no matching hardware can be found.  If the one you install is "wrong", you can "uninstall" it, and try the next.

Note that HP sometimes puts different "revisions" of the same device-driver, e.g., "version 2" & "version 3" on to their web-site.  So, you may have less than 7 "unique" device-drivers to try.

Super!  Went to the SuperGeek site and followed the procedure. Bingo! It's good to learn about these features that I would normally not use every day.

Many thanks!

You're very welcome.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion about why so many revisions appear in the driver listings.  Seems like the latest rev (top of the list) should normally be the best choice.  Yes?

Anytime.

What hardware ID did you get when I gave you the link yesterday to find it?

The first item listed at the top of the page is the bluetooth driver and that is only good if the hardware ID is for a Broadcom wifi card.

There ended up being four drivers that I needed.  The Realtek PCIE family controller, the Ralink Wifi adapter, The AMD high def graphics card driver and the HP on screen display utility.

.  The Microsoft generic drivers were enough to see the screen and navigate around offline, but that was about it.

BTW, the post replies aren't coming to my personal mailbox, even though I have the "Email me when someone replies" checked  off.  Any thoughts on that one?

My ID is "subscribed" to this thread.  I do receive an E-mail for every update.

In the top-right corner of this web-page (that you are looking-at right now), click your ID, and check the E-mail ID that is associated with your HP Forum ID.

Also, check your "Junk Mail" E-mail folder.
