Hi @tallbirdq8

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel to be excited about setting up your new laptop, only to be stopped by a passkey message.

You’ve already taken the right step by trying to sign in with your phone, so let’s carefully walk through how to link your passkey to your iPhone and get you signed in smoothly.

Here are the steps you can try:

  1. On your iPhone, open Settings.
  2. Tap Passwords. Make sure you have Face ID or Touch ID enabled to access saved credentials.
  3. Check if there are any saved passkeys for logon.microsoft.com. If none are present, you’ll need to create one.
  4. On your HP laptop, when prompted to sign in with a passkey, choose the option to create a new passkey.
  5. You’ll be asked to use your phone. Select iPhone and follow the on‑screen instructions. This should prompt your iPhone to save a new passkey under Passwords.
  6. Once saved, retry signing in. Your iPhone should now show the matching passkey for Microsoft login.
  7. If you still don’t see the option, ensure your iPhone is updated to the latest iOS version and that iCloud Keychain is turned on. To check:
    • Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Passwords and Keychain.
    • Toggle it on if it’s off.

For additional guidance on setting up your HP laptop with Windows and account sign‑in, you can refer to HP’s official support page here: Set up a new HP Windows PC

This guide walks through the initial setup process, including account sign‑in, and can help ensure everything is aligned between your laptop and your phone.

You’ve already done the right troubleshooting by checking your phone. With these steps, you should be able to create and link the passkey so your sign‑in feels seamless and secure.
