HP Pavilion 15-aw030ur (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good day to all, I want to solve an annoying issue about the laptop's performance, the fact is that it works quickly from the outlet, as it should be, but when running on battery power, the performance is greatly reduced, I am well aware that this is done to save energy, but this time it is reduced to the limit, the processor works less than half of its capacity, the computer takes a long time to boot, programs and files take a long time to open, and at the same time the energy consumption in this mode is not enough for a long time, everything is blocked in the BIOS, and I am disappointed that nothing can be changed on my own. Support is trying with all their might to avoid direct communication by e-mail, cramming various programs for diagnostics, etc., but there is no sense in this. Therefore, I ask the community for help, because even on an old Asus laptop with a i7-2820qm processor, it will work much better from battery power without losing power, despite the fact that the old one consumes more energy. If anything, we are talking about my HP Pavilion 15-aw030ur. Thanks in advance for your help

Hi @5CD7152HFD,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're facing significant performance throttling on battery power with your HP Pavilion 15. This can indeed be frustrating, especially when you're used to good performance while plugged in. Here are a few steps you can try to address this issue.

Check Power Plan Settings

  • Battery Saver Mode: In Windows, there is a "Battery Saver" mode that reduces performance to extend battery life. Make sure it's turned off.
    • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep and click on Additional Power Settings.
    • Ensure that the Balanced power plan is selected (or High Performance if available). Avoid using the Power Saver plan.
    • In the power plan settings, make sure that the processor’s power management settings (like maximum processor state) are set to 100%.

Update BIOS and Power Management Drivers

  • Sometimes, a BIOS update or updated power management drivers can resolve issues with performance throttling on battery power.
    • Visit the HP support page for your model and check for any available BIOS updates or power management drivers.

Adjust Battery Settings in HP Command Center (if available)

  • HP often includes a utility like HP Command Center or HP Support Assistant. Check if your laptop has one of these tools.
    • If so, open the app and look for settings related to battery health or performance modes.
    • Ensure the settings are configured to allow higher performance even when running on battery.

Disable Intel SpeedStep or AMD Cool'n'Quiet (in BIOS)

  • Some HP laptops, especially with Intel or AMD processors, have power-saving features like Intel SpeedStep or AMD Cool'n'Quiet, which might limit CPU speed to save power.
    • If you can access the BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing F10 during startup), look for these settings and consider disabling them.
    • However, be cautious with this step as it may lead to higher power consumption and reduce battery life.

Ensure Battery is Healthy

  • A degraded battery can sometimes cause poor performance when not plugged in. You can check the battery's health in Task Manager > Performance or use HP’s built-in diagnostics tool to check the battery status.
    • If the battery is in poor health, it may be worth considering a replacement.

Check for Thermal Throttling

  • If the system overheats on battery power, it might throttle performance to prevent damage. Make sure your laptop’s cooling system is clean and working properly (e.g., clean air vents, check for dust buildup).
  • You can use tools like HWMonitor or Core Temp to monitor CPU temperatures to see if thermal throttling is occurring.

Unnecessary Background Processes

  • Sometimes, background processes or apps can take up CPU resources, slowing down your laptop even more when on battery.
    • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any apps or processes that are consuming an unusually high amount of CPU or memory when on battery.
    • Try disabling non-essential background apps to improve performance.

By following these steps, you should be able to get better performance from your HP Pavilion 15 when running on battery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Everything that you have listed has already been tested long ago without you, no energy consumption modes almost change the performance, only the processor turbo boost is disabled, other programs for such matters are not installed, the system operates in normal operating mode, the battery is more than worn out, and you can’t change absolutely anything in the system through the BIOS!!!

Or rather, the battery is good
