Hello HP Community,

I’m seeking some advice regarding my HP Pavilion 15-CC129TX laptop running Windows 11 Home. My original battery recently stopped working, so I had the option of either going with a third-party replacement (Lapgrade, Techie, etc.) or an HP-OEM battery. I decided to purchase the HP-OEM battery as a budget-friendly and reliable choice.

After installing the new OEM battery, I noticed that my laptop isn’t reading it properly in the battery management section of the system settings. Is this normal behavior for a newly installed OEM battery?

I then ran the Hardware Diagnostics UEFI battery test, and it recommended performing a battery calibration, which it mentioned could take 10–14 hours. My questions are:

  • Should I go ahead and calibrate the new HP-OEM battery right away?

  • Or is it better to first use the laptop for a few charge/discharge cycles (draining and recharging fully) before performing the calibration?

I’d really appreciate any guidance or best practices from the community to ensure I get the best performance and lifespan out of this new battery.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi:

See this link for how to get the most life out of your notebook's battery:

I recommend that you run the battery for a couple of cycles.

I've never had an issue like that when installing a new battery.
