Hi @Rice23_
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how concerning it is when your HP laptop suddenly shuts down, especially after a BIOS update.
Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try turning on the laptop.
2. Restore BIOS Using Key Press Combination
If the shutdown occurred due to a BIOS corruption, you can attempt a recovery:
- Power off the laptop.
- Press and hold Windows + B keys.
- While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 1-3 seconds, then release it.
- Keep holding Windows + B until the HP BIOS recovery screen appears or you hear beeping sounds.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to restore the BIOS.
You can also watch this HP Support video for a step-by-step guide.
3. Check for Overheating or Power Issues
- Ensure the cooling vents are clean and unobstructed.
- Try using a different power adapter to rule out power-related issues.
4. Reset CMOS Battery
If the issue persists, resetting the CMOS battery may help:
- Power off the laptop and unplug it.
- Open the back panel and locate the CMOS battery (small coin-sized battery).
- Remove it carefully and wait 5-10 minutes.
- Reinsert the battery and restart the laptop.
5. Reinstall BIOS Update
If the BIOS update was interrupted or corrupted, reinstalling it may resolve the issue:
- Visit the HP Support page for your laptop model.
- Download the latest BIOS update and install it following HP’s instructions.
Let me know how it goes, and I’ll be happy to assist further!
