Since I updated the BIOS on my HP Notebook, via the HP Support Assistant on the 12 Apr, my laptop won't wake up from sleep mode and to recover it I have to resort to a hard reset (holding power button down for over 5 secs) and restarting the laptop. I have been into the system settings and they are correctly set. Any ideas what else I can check?

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is not waking up from sleep correctly after the BIOS update.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
What is the exact model for your computer?
I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.
Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.
Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.
Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.
Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.
If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.
On your keyboard, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘Powercfg.cpl’ in it.
Hit the ‘Enter’ key to open power options in the control panel.
From the left-hand side, click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’.
Then, click on the link ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.
From the bottom given power button options, uncheck the ‘Turn on fast startup’ option.
Click on ‘Save changes’ button.
If the issue persists, follow the below steps.
Go to the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘Control panel’ then hit the ‘Enter’ key.
From the top-right filter, choose ‘Large icons’ and navigate to the ‘Power Options’,
Click and open the ‘Power options’.
Select the power plan according to your requirement and click on ‘Change plan settings’.
Click on ‘Change advanced power settings’.
In the power options windows, click on the button ‘Restore plan defaults’.
Click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’ button.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi The_Fossette
Thanks for your response. The details of my laptop are as follows:
HP Notebook Model 14-am074na, Product ID: IBW93EA#ABU, SN: 5CG7024NC8.
I have tried the 3 solutions you suggested, and there has been a slight improvement in that the screen will now wake up by touching any key after it goes to sleep. However, if I close the lid it is still the same, it won't wake up using any means (i.e. opening the lid, pressing the power button or touching any key). The only way to recover the computer is still a hard reset (pressing and holding the power key until the hard drive switches off and then rebooting the computer). Do you think I need to update the BIOS again, as it was after the latest BIOS update that this problem started? If so, can you point me to somewhere I can get the BIOS?
Thanks again for your help with this.

I recommend you download and install the BIOS from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.
