HP ENVY - 17-ae102nb
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

My notebook (HP ENVY - 17-ae102nb) keeps going into sleep mode after 2-3 minutes. However, according to the settings it should be much longer. I already reviewed every setting I could find and tried with updating BIOS, disabling all non-Microsoft services and even a full factory reset. Nothing solved it.

I'm starting to get rather desperate, what should/can I still try to solve this?

Thank you for the effort and all the information! Luckily, I found the solution myself in the meanwhile.

The problem apparently occured because I use a mouseclick to re-activate my notebook from sleep mode. After that, Windows uses another, hidden setting to go to sleep mode which is by default set to 2 minutes. I could only make this setting visible (in order to adapt it) via the registry. Personally, I really find this a mistake in Windows, I don't see the difference in turning on a pc with a mouseclick or with the power button. There shouldn't be a difference in settings, or at least it should be made easily adaptable instead of hidden.

For those who are interested, the necessary info to solve this problem can be found in the article below. It's very clearly explained, I was very lucky to have found it.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:

You can modify your Windows sleep settings with the following steps:

  1. Open up search by hitting the Windows Key + Q shortcut.
  2. Type "sleep" and select "Choose when the PC sleeps".

    Windows 10

  3. You should see two options:
    • Screen: Configure when the screen goes to sleep.
    • Sleep: Configure when the PC will hibernate.
  4. Set the time for both using the drop-down menus.

Please reply with the details for further assistance.

Eager to help!
