HP notebook 15-da0011na

Laptop is slow even though is fairly new. Doesn’t work using word, skips letters and doesn’t type. Keys don’t work or space bar on the screen which means I’m unable to write essays for uni work as all the words and letters are jumbled up. Any help would be brilliant

The specs of your machine is

         https://support.hp.com/si-en/document/c06108887

From its specs, I have 2 suggestions

1.  RAM:  It has 4 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB). Programs do not have much room to run therefore System will swap them out/in to slow HDD. You can upgrade RAM to

   (a) 16GB using following compatible RAM

https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k8g4sfs824a/ct14045684                (RAM will run at 2133MHz)

  (b) 32GB using following compatible RAM

https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k16g4sfd824a/ct14045648             (RAM will run at 2133MHz)

2. STORAGE: as mentioned above machine has slow HDD, you have 2 options

    (a) Replace HDD with a 2.5" SATA SSD using

            https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/crucial-mx500-ssd
            https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/860evo/
     Or similar from reputable vendors.

            One example

                      https://www.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct1000mx500ssd1/ct14045705

    (b)  Add M.2 NVMe SSD to your machine using

             https://www.samsung.com/au/memory-storage/970-evo-nvme-m2-ssd/MZ-V7E2T0BW/
             https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/crucial-p2-ssd
             https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/crucial-p5-ssd
       Or similar from reputable vendors.
             One example

                    https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p5/ct1000p5ssd8/ct18127464

You can upgrade RAM first and Storage later.

Regards.

You know these things...

This is a fairly modest computer - i3 processor, slower disk, 4GB memory.

That said, the wireless / network is fair - single antenna but it does support 5GHz.

OK.

15-da0011na Product Specifications

Word Online is free - it is the single best thing about it.

Microsoft Online Office is used "online" (it is not installed on your computer).

The service is used by a lot of people all at the same time.

In addition to your computer hardware (what the computer can do), your access to online tools (software used on the Web) is affected by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) - faster or slower Internet service, for example.  If you happen to live in a rural region (many people do so) and you are dependent on long-range Wireless Internet Service, that too, can have an impact.  If you are housed at University, you might be dependent on Wireless provided by the school.  This might - or might not - be a good thing since all service is not equal.

The choppiness, in other words, might be a combination of factors.  You cannot "control" the hardware (what you bought); you can perhaps control what you are doing.  For example, do make sure you have other services off when you are working.  For example, the computer may not be able to handle editing "Word Online" documents and streaming your favorite video and keeping in touch with friends using your favorite Social Media Application all at the same time.

You might want to consider investing in an Office product that you can run on your computer.  Licenses to cost money; choose a plan that (hopefully) meets your budget constraints.
