HP 14-bp081no
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

I have a soon three year old HP Laptop "14-bp081no".
My wife and sister have the same laptop, 2,5 years old.
Now I have a problem, which they do not have. I've had this problem since December 2019. Mind that I have installed all the Windows updates, HP updates, and reinstalled the PC.

The problem:
When unplugged, or plugged but charging, the PC is extremely slow. Loading a web page takes time. Opening up the file explorer takes time. Each mouse click returns a delayed response. The CPU, memory and disk usage are low, 10%, while this problem occurs. Even when I'm playing a song on YouTube, I get a distorted sound due to lag. But as soon as the PC is charged minimum 80% charged put plugged, everything is good. The battery settings are at maximum while plugged and unplugged. I reinstalled the PC in spring, and it's still like new, there's no installed programs or files on it, except Google Chrome.

I have always used if for browsing and writing documents. Some YouTube of course.

I did some CFD simulations in fall, which requires high usages of CPU for several hours, no idea if this can harm some components, that would have just been strange. I scanned the PC for hardware issues with the "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows" and "Windows Memory Diagnostics", but the results are all good.

I long struggled with trying this and that. Eventually I isolated the problem to occur while unplugged or charging. Everything is good while it's plugged with minimum 80 % battery.

What should I try next? BIOS update? I have no idea. Everything is updated according to Windows and HP.

Thank you.

I understand your concerns.

First, let's start by performing a hard reset on the PC to release any excessive static/power that could have caused the issue.

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.

Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

Second, you can check if there is Bios update available for your PC, here is the link to download.

Performing a test on the Hard drive as well as on the Memory from the Hardware diagnostics:
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once for System Diagnostics.
4) Go to Component test.
5) Run extensive Memory and Hard Drive test.

Depending on the test results, If the test passes then I would suggest you perform a complete system recovery.

Note: Recovery will wipe off everything from the computer. If you have anything important get in touch with some local stores to get your data backed up.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Yes the next step would be BIOS update

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Hello and Thank you for your reply, very kind.

As stated in the top of my post, I have already downloaded and installed all the updates from HPSA, and all windows updates are downloaded and installed.

Unfortunately, this has not fixed my problem.

I am thankful for further support.

Hello and thank you for your reply.

Sorry for delayed answer, its hectic with kids.

I did the hard reset, and then I did the test on the hard drive and memory. All good.

I tried to search for BIOS but the link did not find anything on my serial number. Anyway, everything is updated with HPSA.

I guess I have to try a system recovery again.

I will reply with results.

Hi!

I have just performed the recovery process "Microsoft Reset" according to this link.

The PC is reset to Windows 10 2004, and i chose the option to make a "hard clean" on the harddrive. I used local update, not cloud update.

I have installed all windows updates, and HPSA updates. Now I need some days for testing.

Question. Is it OK i did the "Microsoft Reset", or should I have done the "System Recovery"?

I have not completely understood the difference between these.

I’d recommend you contact HP Phone Support in your region further for assistance.

Follow the instructions below to reach them:

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.

6)Fill the web-form and proceed further.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Have a great day!

POST EDIT: I managed to update the BIOS. Will take a few days to check the performance.

Hello!

PC still feels slow while unplugged or charging. OK while plugged and fully charged.

I tried to perform a System Recovery, but I am failing to do so.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758961

Through HP Recovery Manager, I can not reach the Windows Recovery Environment, to start the Recovery Manager. I can only reach the "Reset your PC", which I performed last week.

And again, all the Windows Updates are up to date, and so it the HPSA updates.

I can not contact HP, because the warranty of one year is expired. The PC is soon three years old.

Any other thoughts?

Praveen196 tipsed me to update the BIOS, but I failed that to through the HP link. And everything is up to date with HPSA.

Thanks so far!

Updating the BIOS did the work. The PC is so smooth now again.

Thank you all!!
