Hi @Keltro47,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The SMART Hard Disk Error 301 on your HP laptop indicates a potential failure of the hard drive, which can lead to data loss. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and recover your data.
Backup Your Data
- If possible, back up your data immediately. Use an external hard drive, USB drive, or cloud storage. You can try accessing your files by:
- Booting into Safe Mode.
- Connecting the hard drive to another computer using a USB enclosure if you can’t boot your laptop.
Run Hard Drive Diagnostics
- HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Turn it back on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F2 to run HP Hardware Diagnostics.
- Select Hard Drive Tests and run the Quick Test and Extended Test.
Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS by pressing the F10 key during startup.
- Look for the Hard Drive section and check if the drive is detected.
Consider Hard Drive Replacement
- If diagnostics indicate a failing drive, you may need to replace it. Ensure you have the correct specifications for a replacement drive.
Reinstall the Operating System
- After replacing the hard drive, you can reinstall Windows using a recovery drive or installation media.
Additional Tips
- Keep your laptop's software up to date to avoid issues.
- Regularly back up important data to prevent loss.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
