My system is showing the smart hard disk check has detected an imminent failure . What can I do

Check to see if there is a serious hardware problem.

Tap the ESC key after powering on. Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics.  Run the disk test and look for an error code.

Lookup any of the 24 character error codes here.

 

Search youtube for a video showing replacement of the drive.

On a desktop system, it is rare, but it can happen, that the cable to the drive is loose or the contact corroded but the drive is good. l doubt that is the problem.  You need to replace the drive.

 

Please provide the Product ID or exact model name for better assistance. Preferably the full product ID including the characters after the # symbol. This code may be needed to find cloud recovery files.
