I have encountered my first melted HP Chromebook 11 G5 (Product number:X9U02UT) today. The power plug is melted and the case in the vicinity of the power plug area is now malformed because of excessive heat in the area. I called HP support, but this unit is 3 months out of warranty and the agent was rather inflexible on the phone. I'm not opposed to sending it in to HP for billable repair, but I wonder if this is something that the warranty should be extended for.
Here is a link to some pictures I took.

We found parts for the HP Chromebooks on: http://www.chromebookparts.com/Default.asp
They were also selling them on Amazon, but they appear to be out of stock.

We have several Model 11 G4 Chromebooks that have sparked and have smoke coming out of the charging port. The chargers are fine but after the above mentioned event the Chromebooks will not charge. More of these units are coming to our tech' office on a daily basis.
What is going on HP??

HP and CDW tried to assist us on this and replaced them while under warranty. After that, we purchased after market power ports and installed them on several Chromebooks to repair them. Others with damaged processor boards are now used as spare parts.
The new HP Chromebooks do not appear to have this issue with the USB-C charging ports.
