Hi @TSchenker11

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the image. The message “Boot Device Not Found (3F0)” means your HP laptop is unable to detect a hard drive with a valid operating system. I know how alarming that can feel, especially if everything was working fine before.

Let’s walk through a recovery path step by step.

Step-by-step recovery for Boot Device Not Found (3F0)

1. Perform a hard reset

  • Power off the laptop completely
  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, SD cards, etc.)
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds
  • Reconnect only the power adapter and turn the laptop back on

2. Run System Diagnostics

  • On the error screen, press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
  • Run the Storage Test and System Test
  • If the storage test fails or shows “No drive detected,” note the result

3. Check BIOS for drive detection

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then press F10 to enter BIOS
  • Go to Storage > Device Configuration
  • Confirm whether the internal drive is listed
  • If not listed, the drive may be disconnected or failed

4. Reseat the SSD (if accessible)

  • If your laptop has a serviceable SSD bay:
    • Power off and unplug the laptop
    • Open the back panel carefully
    • Remove and reinsert the SSD
    • Close the panel and restart
  • If the SSD is soldered or inaccessible, skip this step

5. Attempt recovery using HP Cloud Recovery or USB

  • If the drive is detected but the OS is missing or corrupted:
    • Use another PC to download HP Cloud Recovery Tool
    • Create a recovery USB
    • Boot from USB and follow on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows

Let me know what you find during the diagnostics or BIOS check. If the drive is not detected at all, I can guide you through options to recover data or replace the storage.

You’re doing the right thing by reaching out quickly—we’ll work through this together.
