HP Spectre x360 16

Good evening,

I am currently having huge issues in installing Windows 10 successfully on my new Spectre x360 16-f0059na, having received it earlier today. It came with Windows 11 installed, which I have no interest whatsoever in using, so I used a recent (no longer than 2 weeks old) Windows 10 USB stick created using the Windows Media Creation tool and went through the usual process.

I had the familiar issue of not being able to see the storage device, I had the same driver issue on the 14 I recently had and still had the driver on the USB stick so tried that and it found the drive. I then formatted and began installation, only to then find that after installing and going into final setup the device could not find my WiFi card so I had no internet - I had to set up a local account etc. Eventually I installed the WiFi drivers after booting into Windows and went through all the Windows updates that took a good old while, after which the following device drivers had not been installed;

- Touch screen
- TouchPad
- Web Cam

Those are the only 3 I noticed, there could well have been other drivers that were not installed even after installing every single Windows update that I could - i.e. until it says up to date for the 5th or 6th time in a row.

I then decided that perhaps it was an old Windows 10 being used by the media creation tool, so I downloaded the latest ISO which I believe to be November 2021 - 21H2 I believe. I then tried that and ran into the same driver issues (and now not having the drivers on the USB stick after formatting it), looked up my device on HP support and realised there are no storage drivers available that I could find (admittedly they might be available under the dozen or two dozen versions of Windows 10 listed) and so I decided to use the drivers for the 14 model and go from there.

I was able to install the WiFi drivers at the 'installation drive select' screen, as well as the storage drivers. So this time I was able to connect to the Internet straight away, thinking this might instigate some early driver downloads (not really sure why this would make a difference but thought it was worth a shot) but alas no - exact same issue as above on finishing install and updating Windows - no web cam, no touchpad, no touchscreen etc. etc.

Any ideas on what I am supposed to do? HP have provided very few drivers on their site, presumably because Windows 10 is supposed to install them all automatically - but what am I supposed to do when they don't?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I had the 14 delivered about a week ago (now for sale on eBay) and had no issue whatsoever installing Windows 10 after getting the storage drivers sorted, but here with the 16 I have multiple driver issues...

Thanks,

Tim

OK, so this is immensely frustrating.

I decided to save all the Windows 11 drivers after installing Windows 11 again and hoping I could just use them in Windows 10...

Unfortunately none of those worked, it appears to not recognise either the webcam, touchpad or indeed touchscreen - as far as the laptop is concerned none of those things seem to exist.

There does appear to be an issue with two 'Intel Control Logic' listings in Device Manager (they appear as 'Unknown Device' until I install them using the drivers from Windows 11 above), they both have an exclamation mark and error with a 'waiting on another device, or collection of devices to start' message (not a direct quote). So I am assuming it has something to do with that, removing the two of them and restarting is not helping, which is one of the fixes I found online...

Does no one have any idea what this could be? Usually with every laptop I have ever had before I have never had this issue, but Windows 10 just won't recognise the touchpad, touchscreen or webcam - I am assuming it must have something to do with the Intel Control Logic devices listed in Device Manager that are erroring. Any ideas?

Needless to say this is immensely frustrating!
