HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef0000 (3Y838AV)

Laptop is finally back after a month having been repaired under warranty

When we boot it up to use it it is asking for a Bitlocker Key - we've got no idea what this is & the telephone help lines are of course not in operation at the weekend

Hi @Toppov,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Spectre was sent in for warranty repair, it is possible that the repair process required the hard drive to be replaced or re-imaged, which would have resulted in Bitlocker being enabled on the drive.

In order to access your files, you will need the Bitlocker recovery key. The recovery key is a unique code that you would have been provided with when Bitlocker was initially enabled on your device. If you cannot find the recovery key, you may be able to retrieve it from your Microsoft account or your organization's IT department.

Here are the steps you can follow to retrieve your Bitlocker recovery key.

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey.
  2. Find the device for which you need the recovery key and select "Get Bitlocker keys."
  3. Follow the instructions to get the recovery key.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
